In the context of the ongoing discussions in the European Parliament and Council on the European Commission’s proposal for a Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market [2016/0280(COD)] the Copyright for Creativity (C4C) coalition is publishing a number of infographics to share its analysis of the proposal article-by-article. Please find below the infographics currently available.

Article 11 – Press publishers’ right (a.k.a. ancillary copyright)

The press publisher’s right, aka the neighbouring right for press publications, aka ‘ancillary copyright’, aka ‘Leistungschutzrecht’: many words to designate a real bad idea. But beyond the policy discussions, it is important to grasp the exact impact of Article 11 as proposed by the European Commission in the context of the EU Copyright review, an impact which is set out in this infographic (click here for a larger version or here for the PDF) and in this CopyBuzz.com article by David Meyer.
Article 13 – Filtering user uploaded content (a.k.a. the censorship filter)

The censorship filter that sneaked into the EU Copyright review under the disguise of ‘value gap’, is probably the most flagrant illustration of a legislator passing on the baton of enforcement to private entities, whilst stating in the same breath that it doesn’t trust them to do the right thing (huh, so why should we?). Once again, we believe it is crucial for everyone to get a better understanding of the exact impact of Article 13 as proposed by the European Commission in the context of the EU Copyright review, an impact which is set out in this infographic (click here for a larger version or here for the PDF).
